"At Calvary" from The Sacred Light Collection
"At Calvary" was written by a professor at Moody Bible Institute who was reflecting on his own rebellious history:
"Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my Lord was crucified,
Knowing not it was for me He died
On Calvary."
The hymn captures the new Christian's regret for past selfish living and the overwhelming joy and peace found at the cross, expressing that the atoning work of Christ covers all sin. Its powerful lyrics draw from scriptures like Isaiah 53:6 and 1 Peter 2:24, focusing on God's initiative to save and the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice
The Sacred Light Collection is a set of four hymn-inspired stained glass paintings, each created on wood block—a departure from my traditional canvas work and an exploration of faith through light, texture, and redemption.
What makes this collection especially meaningful is its origin: each individual “glass” tile was cut from a previously discarded painting of my own. In giving new life to what might have been set aside, these pieces reflect the heart of the hymns themselves—grace restored, assurance renewed, and faith made whole.
