"Blessed Assurance"- from "The Sacred Light Collection"
Over the past season, I experimented with something completely different for me—small stained glass–inspired paintings created on wood block. What makes this collection especially meaningful is how it came to be: each individual “glass” tile was cut from a previously discarded painting of my own. (You can see the painting in the accompanying photos.)
Rather than starting fresh, I chose to reclaim what already existed—layering pieces of past work into something new. In many ways, the process mirrored the heart of the hymns themselves: grace, redemption, assurance, and refuge.
This collection includes four hymn-inspired pieces:
Amazing Grace
At Calvary
Blessed Assurance
Rock of Ages
Blessed Assurance
"Blessed Assurance" is a song of praise by Fanny Crosby, written in the 1800s. The popular song reflects Crosby's walk of faith, as expressed by the apostle Paul in Philippians:
"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21).
