The Story Behind the Name:
"Coming Home"
My husband and I spent two weeks in Europe celebrating our 30th anniversary. All around I saw gorgeous architecture- particularly magnificent windows and doorways. After returning from Europe I was filled with both awe of the opportunity (great trip!) and gratitude to live here, in America.
I was pondering for months about a piece to create in honor of America's 250th anniversary this summer. The hymnal is a great source of inspiration, including those songs that remind us that anything good we find in this nation can only be pointed back to the Hand of Providence.
Makes me feel a little nostalgic…
It’s a bit bittersweet, so see where our nation fails to honor Him as we once did.
I read the words,
“America! America!
God mend thine ev’ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law.”
Yes Lord, make it so.
Story Behind the Name:
"To What We've Been Given"
We've been given a rich heritage of founders, documents, events and even monuments and songs that declare America's continued reliance on Our Creator.
On May 17th I was able to attend the Rededicate250 day of prayer and praise in Washington, D.C. I was so grateful to participate in a day to not only rededicate this nation back to God (as was done originally on May 17, 1776 during the Continental Congress) but to rededicate my own life back to His service.
Take a look closely at this piece and you will notice the music for "America the Beautiful" and "The Star Spangled Banner" in a collage along the edges. These are beautiful, Christ-honoring songs that are found in our hymnals. Some of those, particular later and less-known verses of our patriotic songs are Gospel-driven.
The window there above the window has a bit of light, but it could be brighter. America's light could be brighter- and you and I are that light!
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14.
