"Hydrangeas": This one has a pretty special backstory. đź’ś
It started with a bunch of brooches from my Grandma Engle’s jewelry box.
As a little girl, I LOVED playing with her costume jewelry. I could spend forever sorting through the sparkle, trying things on, and imagining all the places those treasures had been.
Years later, those little pieces found their way into my art.
But this painting has now had its own little redeeming moment.
For this piece in my Redeemed Redo Collection, I decided this chunky, textured painting needed a makeover. I wanted to take those brooch-inspired flowers and turn the whole thing into a full-on “standing inside a hydrangea bush” experience.
So I softened the palette, reworked the flowers, added layers and detail, and let the texture become part of the experience.
I think Grandma would have loved it.
There’s something really satisfying about taking an old piece, keeping the history that makes it meaningful, and giving it a completely new life.
