His Eye is on the Sparrow
Story Behind the Piece
At the end of 2025, I noticed something about the songs I had on repeat.
My favorites were about getting out of here.
Heaven. Relief. The end of sorrow. The place where things are finally made right.
Somewhere along the way, the line from His Eye Is on the Sparrow drifted into my mind:
“Why should my heart be lonely,
And long for Heaven and home?
When Jesus is my portion,
My constant friend is He.”That question stopped me.
Why should my heart be lonely?
If I’m honest, I know why. Grief. Missing my parents. Watching the state of our nation and feeling a low-grade anxiety about where it’s headed. Fear makes escape look holy. Longing for Heaven can sometimes feel less like longing for Jesus… and more like longing for an exit hatch.
It’s easier to trust God there.
In Heaven, where all tears are wiped away.
Where justice is sure.
Where everything is finally steady.
But do I trust Him here?
The sparrow doesn’t escape the storm. It lives under the same sky we do. The promise isn’t removal — it’s presence.
I keep coming back to Psalm 27:13:
“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.”
The Artwork: His Eye Is on the Sparrow
This matted original painting was inspired by the timeless hymn His Eye Is on the Sparrow, a song that has comforted generations with its message of God's attentive care.
A nest rests quietly on a strong branch beneath an open sky.
Textured flowers bloom along the branch, symbolizing both the beauty of creation and the joy that comes from trusting the One who watches over every life. Cool coastal blues and soft greens create a peaceful atmosphere, inviting the viewer into a moment of reflection and assurance.
This 11x14 piece repurposes historic hymns into visual worship—transforming music once sung into artwork that continues to declare God's faithfulness.
